INTRODUCTION

Why study this program?

Introduction

‘Sexual and reproductive health’ as a sub-set of Health in general is a ‘state of holistic physical, psychological and social well being in all constituents related to the reproductive functions and not simply the absence of reproductive disease or infirmity. It signifies that people are able to have a safe and healthy sexual life, the capability to procreate, and the ethical privilege to decide on related personal matters.
It is highly pertinent that to attain reproductive wellness and better levels of sexual and reproductive indices, evidence-based information should be made available to the masses and more so to the healthcare workers who are the drivers of upliftment in sexual and reproductive standards. It includes a scientific approach to public health awareness and social empowerment related to contraceptive standards, adolescent health, sexually transmitted infections, infertility issues, safe childbearing, male sexual health, approach towards dispelling myths and superstitions, etc.
The Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Global Sexual and Reproductive Health Management (APGD-GSRHM) at the James Lind Institute is conceived and tailored towards helping public health professionals, physicians, nurses, midwives and other volunteers working in community settings , to develop a good understanding of the scientific standards, policies, ethics, legal issues, sociocultural issues and epistemological practices related to Sexual and Reproductive Health. The course also touches upon management principles and epidemiology which helps sexual and reproductive health professionals to better manage their work in an interdisciplinary team approach for mitigating the risks and reduce reproductive morbidity and mortality.
