Why study this program?
We have reached to a stage where conceptualizing health systems and policy initiatives
without a global perspective are incomplete and impractical. Frequent travel and
international trade has led to a rapid progress towards economic and cultural globalization
and interdependence. The informatics revolution with the advances in technology have
caused a paradigm shift in social interaction patterns and determinants of health.
Global health is a dynamic interrelationship between the drivers of health in a global and
holistic context. It has evolved as a domain of knowledge based on research and evidence
based practice and international policy. Health policies and medical advancements that go
beyond national boundaries or have an international, political and economic impact are
given a major impetus.
Global health as defined and practiced today has a much wider scope compared to
international health and includes worldwide health improvement, reduction of
incongruities in health, safeguard against global threats that disregard national borders.
The concepts of global health are based on global interdependence rather than a flux of
aid and resources from the economically developed to the developing regions of the
world. It is increasingly being recognized that solutions to transnational health issues and
diseases lie in a multilateral and international collaborative efforts and relationships.
Global health includes the basic tenets of public health, but also seeks to include many
other contrasting disciplines, such as international policy, engineering, law, psychology,
history, complimentary medicine, anthropology, medical journalism etc. to integrate
prevention as well as clinical treatment, constant care as well as the establishment of
improved health systems.
James Lind Institute strives for quality healthcare delivery as a fundamental human right.
The ‘Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Global Health Management and Policy’ provides
