Environmental health is the control of all those aspects in the environment that may have adverse effects on the basic determinants of health vis-à-vis people's physical, mental, or social well-being.
Environmental health is the speciality of public health management that deals with the relationships in-between people and their environment; promotes human health and well-being; and encourages healthy and safe communities.
Environmental health is a basic component of any standard public health system. This specialty of public health management works to advance policies and programs to mitigate the risks associated with chemical, biological, radiation and other environmental exposures in air, water, soil and food to protect people and provide communities with healthy living.
The career opportunities in environmental health practice are very vast and include professionals working in the public and private sector organizations in the capacity of management, technical expertise, education, enforcement, consultation, and emergency response for the purpose of prevention of environmental health hazards and the advancement and protection of the public health and the environment. A few work areas which require trained environmental health professionals include but are not limited to the following: food safety; housing; occupational health and safety management; land use; community noise control; recreational swimming areas and waters; electromagnetic radiation safety; solids, liquids, and hazardous materials management; underground storage tank safety and control; septic tank systems; vector control; potable drinking water quality; water sanitation; emergency preparedness and hazard prevention; milk and dairy sanitation; etc.
The Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Health Management at the James Lind Institute is designed to prepare professionals to confidently deal with community situations with the knowledge and understanding to evaluate and solve real-world environmental and occupational health problems. During this course, particular emphasis is placed on understanding the relationships between the physical and social aspects of environmental and occupational health problems. In addition, critical management and analytical skills are taught to develop professionals into successful managers and leaders.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed on an ongoing basis by the faculty based on the following criteria:
One is the completion of the online multiple choice question tests that follow each lesson; and second is the timely submission of assignments for each study module within the JLI e-Campus.

Am I eligible?
The minimum eligibility criteria for Advanced PG Diploma in Environmental Health Management (APGDEHM) would include either of the following:
- Any degree in Bioscience/Life Sciences such as Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology etc
- Any degree in Medicine such as MBBS, BDS, BPT, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS etc
- Any degree in Pharmacy / Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Any degree in Nursing / Allied Health
- Any degree in Engineering
- Students in their final year of graduation for the above courses are also eligible to apply.
